Modern EVs typically offer 250 to 400 miles of range per charge, with some models exceeding 400 miles. Real-world range varies based on driving conditions, temperature, speed, and climate control usage. Highway driving at higher speeds consumes more energy than city driving, so EPA estimates may differ from your actual experience.
Charging time depends on the charger type. Level 1 (standard outlet) adds 3-5 miles per hour. Level 2 (240V home charger) adds 25-40 miles per hour, fully charging overnight. DC fast charging (Level 3) can add 150-250 miles in 20-30 minutes, depending on the vehicle and charger capacity.
EVs generally have lower operating costs: electricity is cheaper than gasoline per mile, maintenance costs are significantly lower (no oil changes, fewer brake replacements due to regenerative braking), and many states offer tax incentives. The higher purchase price is offset over time by these savings, especially with federal tax credits up to $7,500.
Rankings combine expert review aggregation with community voting. Each EV receives a Gavler Score (out of 10) based on professional reviews evaluating range, performance, charging speed, interior quality, and technology. Community members vote for their top pick with one vote per list.
