A Full-Size Element IQ Oven, a Compact Infrared, or an Air-Fry Hybrid?

Preset hangtags are the wrong first question. Full-size convection, compact infrared, or air-fry hybrid is the oven. Then shop Gavler's live ranking.

The Gavler Team··6 min read

A 10-in-1 hangtag is not a cavity. A preset wall, an air-fry badge on a three-knob oven, and a colorway that matches the kettle are how retailers sell the aisle. Architecture first: a full-size Element IQ oven that toasts six slices and still slow-cooks, a compact infrared or four-slice box that lives next to that kettle, or an air-fry hybrid once fries and a sheet pan have to share one machine.

Get that split wrong and you own a $230 Ninja Foodi XL Pro DT201 you keep asking to brown four slices evenly — or a $150 Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P you curse because you wanted a 13-inch pizza and a chicken.

The live ranking is on our Best Toaster Ovens list. Use this page to pick a lane, then buy from that list.

Buy a full-size Element IQ oven if six slices and a chicken are the job

A household oven is six slices, a real pizza pan, and convection or quartz that can roast. You are buying the pan job. You are not buying a drawer that claims to toast.

The default is the Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845: 1800W, five independent quartz elements, Element IQ that steers power where the function needs it, convection Breville claims can cut cook time by up to 30%, and slow cook that holds up to 10 hours before keep-warm. Ten functions: toast (6 slices), bagel, bake, roast, broil, pizza, cookies, reheat, warm, slow cook. Interior light. One rack, 12×12 enamel pan, broiling rack, 13-inch pizza pan. About $270. Currently first at 9.2 — 36 of 201 votes. Rank is the 80 percent use case — leftover pizza, a sheet of vegetables, a chicken, more than two people. There is no dedicated air-fry preset. This is not the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900 on Best Air Fryers. Those are the honest limits, not reasons to skip it. Buy it when one countertop oven has to do the kitchen. Skip it as a two-level Ninja. Skip it as a four-slice infrared.

The cheap six-slice is the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31127D: 1400W, bake / broil / toast knobs, roll-top door so pizza does not wipe the glass, 9×11 pan, 12-inch pizza, 30-minute timer with stay-on. About $90. Currently ninth at 7.6 — 10 votes. Amazon /dp B06WGNC8Q4 is the new 6-slice — not a Renewed listing and not a 4-slice combo pack. Three knobs. No air fry. No Element IQ. Buy it when $90 is the ceiling. Skip it as even toast. Skip it as a motor you keep for a decade.

Do not buy the Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845 hoping slow cook becomes two-level air fry you already needed from the DT201.

Buy a compact infrared or four-slice if leftover pizza is honest

A compact oven is four slices, a 9- to 11-inch pizza, and a footprint that sits next to a kettle. You are buying toast speed. You are not buying a family sheet pan.

The infrared default is the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P: 1300W near- and far-infrared, no preheat, six illustrated presets (toast, waffle, reheat roll, frozen pizza, reheat, hash browns), shade control, timer to 25 minutes, 250–500°F. Square tray for four slices or a 9-inch pizza. About 13 × 12 × 10.25 in and 7.5 lb. About $150. Currently second at 9.0 — 32 votes. Amazon /dp B008C9UFDI is the silver NB-G110P — not the black NB-G110P-K and not the newer NB-G200P. Frozen snacks and leftover pizza are the weekly job. A 13-inch pizza is the BOV845 / DT201 job. Buy it when four slices and no preheat are enough. Skip it as a chicken oven. Skip it as Element IQ.

The compact Breville is the Mini Smart Oven BOV450: four quartz elements, 1800W, eight functions (bagel, toast, bake, broil, pizza, roast, cookies, reheat), four slices or an 11-inch pizza, 10×10 enamel pan. About $160. Currently fourth at 8.6 — 25 votes. Amazon /dp B00HB21FMM is the current Mini — B07VVXL9FG is Renewed. No slow cook. No interior light. No six-slice toast. Buy it when four slices of Breville is the honest size. Skip it as a Pro. Skip it as no-preheat infrared.

Do not buy the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P hoping a 9-inch tray becomes a 13-inch pizza you already needed from the BOV845.

Buy an air-fry hybrid if fries and a sheet pan share one cavity

An air-fry hybrid is an oven cavity with a real air-fry mode — a mesh basket or two racks, not a drawer that also claims bagel. You are buying volume plus crisp. You are not buying a cheaper FlashXpress with a fan sticker.

The family default is the Ninja Foodi XL Pro DT201: True Surround Convection, two levels so a bird and a basket finish without rotating pans, 1800W, 10 functions including air fry, whole roast, air roast, bake, dehydrate, pizza, broil, toast, bagel, reheat. Digital handle that lights rack positions. About $230. Currently third at 8.8 — 28 votes. Amazon /dp B08BXX69K4 is new-condition stainless — B092Q5N49Z is Renewed; do not paste that ASIN. You are buying air fry and two-level volume, not Element IQ toast. Buy it when a main and a side have to share an oven cavity, not two Ninja drawers. Skip it as a BOV845. Skip it as a four-slice.

The rotisserie Instant is the Omni Plus 18L: model 140-4002-01, EvenCrisp, golden-quartz infrared, 170–450°F, 1800W, ten functions including air fry and rotisserie. Fits a 12-inch pizza or six slices. Enamel tray, rack, air-fry basket, and spit in the box. About $225. Currently fifth at 8.4 — 22 votes. Eighteen liters sits between the Mini Breville and the Ninja XL. The spit is the Instant argument. Buy it when rotisserie chicken in a toaster oven is the weekly job. Skip it as Element IQ. Skip it as two-level DT201 cooking.

The flip-up compact is the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven SP101: eight functions including air fry, a wide shallow cavity that toasts a full row of bread, then parks against the backsplash. About $180. Currently sixth at 8.2 — 19 votes. Amazon /dp B07SCGY2H6 is the current new SP101. Not two-level whole roast. Buy it when counter depth is the constraint and you still want air fry. Skip it as a DT201. Skip it as Element IQ toast.

The 30L value oven is the Cosori Smart Oven CS130-AO: 1800W, about 32 qt / 30 L, 80–450°F, 13-inch pizza or six slices, VeSync app plus voice, rotisserie kit in the box. About $150. Currently seventh at 8.0 — 16 votes. Amazon /dp hits for CS130-AO are oven-plus-accessory bundles — the buy link is a tagged search so those ASINs cannot sneak in. Buy it when 30L and an app are the ceiling and Ninja XL money is the objection. Skip it as two-level convection. Skip it as BOV845 toast.

The steam compact is the Our Place Wonder Oven: six functions (air fry, bake, roast, toast, broil, reheat), a teaspoon or two of water for leftovers, 12L, 4.5 lb chicken, about $149. Currently eighth at 7.8 — 13 votes. Amazon splits the oven across colorway /dp ASINs; the manufacturer hero is Char, so the link is a tagged search. Buy it when a 12L design object that air-fries is the counter. Skip it as infrared toast speed. Skip it as a 30L family cavity.

Do not buy the Ninja Foodi XL Pro DT201 hoping two racks become Element IQ slow cook you already needed from the BOV845.

This list is not a basket fryer, a pop-up, or the other Breville

A toaster oven is a cavity that toasts, bakes, and roasts. A basket air fryer is a drawer for fries and wings — basket vs toaster-oven hybrid lives on the air-fryer buying guide and Best Air Fryers. The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900 sits on that list, not this one. A pop-up toaster only browns bread. Soup already in the pot is a stick — whisk-chopper kit vs bare stockpot stick vs mixer combo in the immersion-blender buying guide and Best Immersion Blenders. Sheet-pan cubes start in a work bowl — 14-cup vs compact cabinet vs dicing kit in the food-processor buying guide and Best Food Processors. A jug next to the compact oven is a kettle — preset household vs gooseneck vs boil switch in the electric-kettle buying guide and Best Electric Kettles. A pitcher is a blender — full-size vs personal vs budget in the blender buying guide and Best Blenders. Cookie tins start in a mixer — tilt-head vs bowl-lift in the stand-mixer buying guide and Best Stand Mixers. No-knead bread starts in a Dutch oven, not a cavity — 6-quart enamel vs seasoned bare iron vs ceramic Sublime in the dutch-oven buying guide and Best Dutch Ovens. A pitcher will not toast a bagel. A BOV845 will not make friction soup.

Do not buy a $400 Air Fryer Pro to replace a four-slice infrared you already needed.

Common Questions

Buy a full-size Element IQ oven if six slices, a 13-inch pizza, and slow cook are the weekly job: the Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845 (five quartz elements, convection, interior light, about $270, currently first at 9.2 — 36 of 201 votes) or the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31127D if $90 and a roll-top door are the ceiling (six slices, three knobs, currently ninth at 7.6 — 10 votes). Buy a compact infrared or four-slice box if leftover pizza and toast next to a kettle are honest: the Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P if no-preheat infrared and four slices are the reason (about $150, currently second at 9.0 — 32 votes) or the Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450 if Element IQ in an 11-inch pizza box is enough (about $160, currently fourth at 8.6 — 25 votes). Buy an air-fry hybrid if fries and a sheet pan have to share one cavity: the Ninja Foodi XL Pro DT201 if two-level whole roast is the volume (about $230, currently third at 8.8 — 28 votes), the Instant Omni Plus 18L if a rotisserie spit is the Instant argument (about $225, currently fifth at 8.4 — 22 votes), the Ninja SP101 if a flip-up 8-in-1 has to park against the wall (about $180, currently sixth at 8.2 — 19 votes), the Cosori CS130-AO if 30L and VeSync are the value cavity (about $150, currently seventh at 8.0 — 16 votes), or the Our Place Wonder Oven if 12L steam infusion is the design object (about $149, currently eighth at 7.8 — 13 votes). Architecture first. A 13-function sticker does not put Element IQ on a Cosori, and a $90 remnant does not become slow cook because the listing said 10-in-1. The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900 lives on Best Air Fryers — it is not this list.

For most kitchens that toast, roast a chicken, and slow-cook without a $400 air-fry flagship, the Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845 — Element IQ, convection, six slices, 13-inch pizza pan, about $270. It currently leads Best Toaster Ovens at 9.2, with 36 of 201 votes. Compact infrared: Panasonic FlashXpress NB-G110P. Family two-level air fry: Ninja Foodi XL Pro DT201. Compact Element IQ: Mini BOV450. Rotisserie air-fry: Instant Omni Plus 18L. Flip-up compact: Ninja SP101. 30L value smart: Cosori CS130-AO. Steam compact: Our Place Wonder Oven. Budget roll-top: Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31127D. Confirm the live community ranking before you buy — votes move. Do not buy the BOV900 from Best Air Fryers thinking it is this Pro.

Buy the BOV845 at about $270 if even toast, a 13-inch pizza, and slow cook are the product — currently first at 9.2. There is no dedicated air-fry preset and no two-level roast. Buy the Ninja DT201 at about $230 if a bird and a basket have to finish on two racks without rotating pans — currently third at 8.8. True Surround Convection, not Element IQ. Buy the FlashXpress at about $150 if four slices and no-preheat infrared are why you opened Panasonic — currently second at 9.0. It will not roast a chicken. Do not buy the Ninja hoping $230 becomes Breville slow cook you already needed from the Pro, and do not buy the Panasonic hoping a 9-inch tray becomes a 13-inch pizza you already wanted from the BOV845.

Buy the Pro at about $270 if six slices, slow cook, an interior light, and a 13-inch pizza pan are the job — currently first at 9.2. Buy the Mini at about $160 if four slices, an 11-inch pizza, and Element IQ in a smaller box are honest — currently fourth at 8.6. Same steered quartz idea, not a cheaper Pro. No slow cook. No interior light. Do not buy the Mini hoping 11 inches becomes a family sheet pan you already needed from the Pro, and do not buy the Pro hoping six slices becomes a kettle-side four-slice you already wanted from the FlashXpress. Neither SKU is the Air Fryer Pro BOV900 on Best Air Fryers.

Yes, if fries, wings, and a sheet pan have to share one machine: the Ninja DT201 (rank 3), Instant Omni Plus (rank 5), Ninja SP101 (rank 6), Cosori CS130-AO (rank 7), and Our Place Wonder Oven (rank 8) all air-fry. No, if even toast, a 13-inch pizza, and slow cook are the weekly job — that is the Breville Pro BOV845 (rank 1) and the Mini BOV450 (rank 4). The Panasonic FlashXpress (rank 2) and Hamilton Beach 31127D (rank 9) are not air-fry ovens. A dedicated air-fry preset is not the Breville Air Fryer Pro BOV900 on Best Air Fryers; that SKU is a different cavity. If you already own a DualZone basket, skip the air-fry oven and buy the BOV845 for toast.

A toaster oven toasts, bakes, and roasts in one cavity: leftover pizza, a sheet of vegetables, six slices. A pop-up toaster only browns bread. A basket air fryer is the circulating-heat job for fries and wings, not a 13-inch pizza — that split lives on the air-fryer buying guide and Best Air Fryers. Most kitchens that already own a toaster and an air-fryer basket still want a toaster oven for the pan job — that is why the BOV845 (rank 1) has no dedicated air-fry preset. If two-level air fry is why you are shopping, buy the Ninja DT201 (rank 3) or Instant Omni Plus (rank 5) instead of a second basket. If four slices and no preheat are the whole job, the Panasonic FlashXpress (rank 2) is enough and a 1-cubic-foot Breville is wasted width.

The Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31127D at about $90 is the six-slice roll-top — bake, broil, toast, three knobs, currently ninth at 7.6. The Panasonic FlashXpress at about $150 is the even-toast compact when $90 coils are the complaint. The Cosori CS130-AO at about $150 is the 30L air-fry cavity when Ninja XL money is the objection — tagged Amazon search, because matching /dp listings are accessory bundles. Do not buy the $90 Hamilton Beach hoping three knobs become Element IQ you already needed from the BOV845, and do not buy the Cosori hoping 30L becomes two-level DT201 convection you already wanted from Ninja.
