Get that split wrong and you own a $400 oven you use like a fry pot — or a 6-quart basket you keep asking to toast bagels and roast a bird.

Buy a basket if the job is fries, wings, and leftovers

A basket is a drawer with a fan. It heats fast, dumps into a sink, and earns the counter by replacing weeknight frying — not by replacing your toaster.

Buy a toaster-oven hybrid if one machine has to replace two appliances

It is the right buy when the air fryer has to do toast, sheet pans, and roast. It is the wrong buy if all you wanted was wings on a Tuesday.

The compact Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer (BOV860) is the same idea in a smaller box — six slices of toast, less cavity, less cash. The Instant Vortex Plus 10-Quart is the cheap oven-hybrid: rotisserie and racks, not Element IQ. Do not confuse it with the 6-quart ClearCook basket. Same Vortex Plus name, different machine.

Dual-basket is the second question, not the first

Two drawers only pay for themselves if you regularly cook a protein and a starch at two temperatures and want them done together. Size, then shop the list

One or two people: 4–5 quarts. Three to five: start at 6 quarts. Oven hybrids are sized by cavity, not drawer quarts — ignore a 10-quart sticker on a Vortex oven if what you wanted was two Ninja baskets.
