Expert Pick #05

ECOVACS DEEBOT X12 OmniCyclone.

A 10.6-inch roller mop, 22,000Pa suction and a bagless cyclone dock. Lab-tested obstacle avoidance is excellent; real-world clutter is hit or miss.

8.8/ 10

Gavler Meta-Score

“The X12 OmniCyclone is one of the best mopping robots you can buy: the roller mop beat the category average by a wide margin in Vacuum Wars' tests, and the bagless dock means no dust bags to rebuy. Vacuuming and lab obstacle avoidance are excellent too. Real homes are less kind: Gizmodo found it slow and clumsy in clutter, and it's too tall for very low furniture. At $1,500 it was hard to recommend. At $900 it earns its place, especially over hard floors.”

ECOVACS DEEBOT X12 OmniCyclone Review: Great Mop, Clumsy in Clutter

The Gavler Team··7 min read

The ECOVACS DEEBOT X12 OmniCyclone scores 8.8 on Gavler's Best Robot Vacuums list and ranks fifth. It is a robot vacuum and roller-mop with a bagless dock, launched at $1,499.99 and now sold by ECOVACS for $899.99. It is best for a home that is mostly hard floors and reasonably tidy. The trade-offs are poor behavior in clutter, a body tall enough to miss low furniture, and a small onboard bin.

What it is

The X12 is ECOVACS' current flagship and, per Gizmodo, essentially the X11 plus a mop-roller shield. The headline change is mopping: a 10.6-inch OZMO roller rinsed as it turns, which extends about an inch toward edges, with twin FocusJet water jets to pre-soak dried spots. The manufacturer lists 22,000 Pa suction, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 98 mm height and thresholds up to 24 mm, or 40 mm for continuous double steps. The dock, which weighs 10.3 kg, empties the bin through a cyclone separator into a 1.6 L bagless chamber, refills the water tank, and washes and hot-air-dries the mop. It also supports Matter.

A sourcing note. Our coverage comes from Vacuum Wars (a lab-style review, June 2026, updated October 2026, plus a three-month long-term review), 9to5Toys, BGR and Gizmodo (all May 2026), and shorter pieces from Basic Tutorials and TechRadar's Dutch edition. No Wirecutter, RTINGS or Tom's Guide review of this model turned up. Most reviewers tested it at about $1,250 to $1,500, not today's price, and no outlet published an independent battery runtime or noise measurement. ECOVACS' dBA figures (about 61 dB sweeping, 64 dB sweeping and mopping) are the manufacturer's own. Reviewers also disagree with our earlier short copy on one point: Gizmodo's page does not report a problem in dim light, so we drop that claim.

In use

Vacuum Wars supplies the hard numbers. The X12 "achieved a perfect 100% score" in its flattened pet hair test, had zero tangling with 7-inch hair against a 26 percent average, and "avoided 23 out of 24 possible objects." Combined mopping scored 27.4 against a 20.3 average, and dried-stain removal scored 112 against 108. Suction measured 1.26 kPa against a 0.99 average. The soft spots: deep carpet cleaning of 76 percent against a 78 percent average, a 250 ml onboard dustbin about 30 percent smaller than average, and a 25 mm threshold crossed only on the second try.

9to5Toys' Justin Kahn found navigation error-free and described it as "a vacuum worth consideration for just about anyone looking to get into the flagship robot cleaning space." He also complained that debris collects on the dustbin lid gasket and needs hand cleaning after nearly every emptying.

Gizmodo's Wes Davis saw the other side. Mapping took about 7 minutes, but a roughly 300 square foot area took over two hours at first. He wrote that the AI Agent mode "made the X12 act like a different device—and not necessarily in a good way," and warned that "if your home is prone to clutter, it's best to look elsewhere." It rammed furniture, caught cables and sucked up pencils and Legos.

Strengths

  • Mopping. The roller beat the category average by about seven points in Vacuum Wars' testing. Gizmodo also praised the mopping, and Vacuum Wars' three-month test found "The roller stayed soft, effective, and odor-free."
  • Pet hair. A 100 percent pickup result and no tangling on 7-inch hair is the best number in the review.
  • Bagless dock. No bags to rebuy, with the bin rated for up to 48 days by ECOVACS.
  • Price now. The $899.99 price is roughly $600 below launch.

Trade-offs and who should skip it

Clutter and cables. Gizmodo's test and Vacuum Wars' long-term review agree: cables were the biggest issue, and the vacuum once dragged a dog toy for several minutes.

Height. At 3.9 inches, BGR's reviewer found it stuck under a low side table near the dock. Gizmodo recommends the Eufy Omni E28 for fitting under furniture.

Maintenance. Vacuum Wars' long-term testers found dog hair balled up in the dust channel and blocked auto-empty, with clogs after about two weeks. BGR's reviewer also noted that the dustbin-full alert is based on runtime, not a sensor, and that the app shows ads.

The upgrade over the X11 is small. BGR found that FocusJet did not noticeably improve mopping over the X11 and recommended the cheaper X8 Pro Omni. Basic Tutorials scored it 91 out of 100 yet concluded that "the high price of the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone is not justified" and noted a below-average 2.4 cm climbing height. That verdict was at a higher price than today's.

How it compares

The Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Pro is Gavler's number three at 9.1 and $1,350, and Basic Tutorials contrasts the ECOVACS' 63 degree Celsius mop-washing water with the Roborock's 100 degree hot-water cleaning. The SwitchBot K11+, rank six at 8.7 and $400, is the cheap alternative for hard floors and light mess. At the top of the list, the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete is rated 9.7 and $1,700; choose it if you want the best overall performance regardless of price. TechRadar's Dutch edition says the Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller Complete mops slightly better at a higher price.

The Gavler verdict

We score the X12 OmniCyclone an 8.8: one of the best mopping robots we track, with excellent lab pet-hair and obstacle numbers, held back by clutter handling and a dock channel that can clog with long hair. At $899.99 it is a strong buy for a tidy, hard-floor home. Pass if you have cables underfoot, low furniture or a shedding dog. See where it ranks on our Best Robot Vacuums list.

Common Questions

At the $899.99 ECOVACS now charges, it is a good choice for a mostly hard-floor home. Reviewers who saw it at $1,500 were far less convinced, with BGR saying yes only if you are willing to spend a lot.

Vacuum Wars measured a combined mopping score of 27.4 against a 20.3 category average, and its long-term review found the roller stayed soft, effective and odor-free after three months.

No. The dock is bagless and empties through a cyclone separator into a 1.6 L bin that ECOVACS rates for up to 48 days. Vacuum Wars' long-term test did find dog hair could clog the auto-empty channel.

It stands about 3.9 inches (98 mm) tall, so low furniture can be a problem. BGR's unit got stuck under a low side table, and Gizmodo recommends the Eufy Omni E28 for fitting under furniture.

Reviews split. Vacuum Wars measured 23 of 24 obstacles avoided, but Gizmodo said its AI mode wandered, rammed furniture and sucked up pencils and Legos, and says cluttered homes should look elsewhere.

Four hands-on reviews: Vacuum Wars (Christopher White, Jun 2026, updated Oct 2026; 3.78 stars, best Ecovacs it has tested, strong lab mopping, pet-hair and obstacle numbers), 9to5Toys (Justin Kahn, May 2026, positive), BGR (Christian de Looper, May 2026, 'yes, but' on price) and Gizmodo (Wes Davis, May 2026, negative on navigation and price). Scored below the top four for the split verdict on real-world navigation; the current $899.99 ECOVACS price lifts its value.
