The Verdict.

8.1/ 10

Gavler Meta-Score

Dana Whitfield's call: the NX2 earned its place as the category pioneer, and the oil-skimming brush was a smart feature competitors still skip. But its maker, Solar Pool Technologies, shut down in June 2024 — there's no new stock, warranty, or parts support anymore. We've kept it here for the history and for anyone troubleshooting an existing unit, but for a new purchase, buy the Betta SE Plus or Aiper Surfer S1 instead.

The Gavler Verdict

Precision Engineering

Solar + Battery Buffer

Runs on solar power with a small battery reserve so it keeps skimming as daylight fades.

Waterline Oil Brush

A leading brush roll wipes sunscreen oils and organic film off the waterline — a feature most skimmers omit.

Surface Debris Tray

Collects leaves, pollen, and bugs from the surface before they sink and stain the floor.

Community Rating82%

The category pioneer, still respected for its waterline oil-skimming brush. Dated navigation and patchy availability keep it behind the newer Betta and Aiper models.

Global Critique

The original solar skimmer, and the waterline oil-skimming brush still sets it apart from newer rivals.

Swim University

A proven design that keeps the surface clean for free — just harder to find than it used to be.

PoolCleanerReviews

Navigation is simpler than the latest models, but the core job still gets done well.
