Cosori Original Gooseneck CO108-NK Review: The Budget Pour-Over Kettle

The Cosori Original Gooseneck CO108-NK is the pour-over kettle most people should actually buy, and its 8.6 places it fourth on Gavler's Best Electric Kettles list. You get a real gooseneck spout, five temperature presets, a 60-minute hold and a stainless water path for roughly $63 to $70. The trade-offs are a small 0.8 L capacity and, according to the one reviewer who measured it, presets that run a few degrees cool. If you want the best, spend more. If you want one that works, this is it.

What it is

The CO108-NK is a 1,200-watt, 0.8 L (0.85 qt) electric gooseneck. Cosori says the housing, lid and spout are food-grade stainless steel, so the water avoids plastic contact. The five presets are White at 170°F, Green at 180°F, Oolong at 195°F, Coffee at 205°F, and Boil/Black at 212°F. Hold Temp keeps the chosen setting for up to an hour, and boil-dry protection and auto shut-off are built in. Cosori lists a 2-year limited warranty.

In use

Reviewed gave the Cosori its Editor's Choice badge as best electric gooseneck kettle, calling it "the perfect combination of style and substance." It also said the kettle "had the fastest boil time of any gooseneck kettle we tested." Reviewed's test brings 1 L of 60°F water to 212°F, but it prints no specific time for the Cosori, so we cannot give you a number from that source. Taste of Home's test kitchen, by contrast, clocked about six minutes to boil, and praised the "beautiful pour," with staffer Mark Neufang saying it has "such an elegant and nice pour." Cosori's own claim is 3 to 5 minutes for a full kettle. Those figures do not line up, and the volumes are unclear, so treat boil speed as good, not proven.

The Gadgeteer's Lex Strickland, reviewing a sample supplied free by Cosori, singled out the ready signal as the best feature and confirmed the one-hour hold. Saveur's Cathryn Haight named it best for tea in 2022.

Strengths

The price is the headline. Reviewed lists it at $62.99 on Amazon, while Cosori and several reviewers show $69.99. For that you get hold-temperature, which many cheaper gooseneck kettles lack, and a spout that meters flow well enough for a V60. The stainless build avoids the glass-and-plastic feel of budget rivals, and the base presets cover most tea and coffee use without a screen to learn.

Trade-offs and who should skip it

Start with accuracy. Strickland measured the non-boil presets at about 5°F below the printed value, and said the controls stopped responding two or three times a week until he unplugged the base for five seconds. That is a single reviewer's experience with a single sample, and we found no corroboration, but it is worth knowing if you are fussy about 205°F coffee water. He also found the preset labels, such as "Boil Black," unclear.

Capacity is the second issue. At 0.8 L, which Reviewed notes is under a liter, it makes one or two cups, and the max line is hard to read. Taste of Home and Saveur both mentioned the small opening and capacity, and Saveur noted the faster flow rate is not always ideal for coffee. BestReviews cites customer reports of interior rust after about a year; that is not testing, but it is consistent with a durability question mark.
