The verdict
Why Bodum wins this category
The Chambord has been made in essentially the same form since 1974 and is in the permanent collection of design museums. The chrome frame holds a borosilicate beaker that you can replace separately when (not if) you eventually break one.
Mechanically, it does what every French press does: steep, plunge, pour. What sets it apart is build — the metal is heavy enough to feel intentional, the lid swivels to seal, and the mesh filter is finer than the knockoffs that flood Amazon.
Skip every press with a "travel mug" attachment, every press with a thermal carafe, every press in a fashion color. Get the chrome 8-cup. Replace the beaker every couple of years and pass the frame to your kids.
